NEXT Trends 2020 series: In an effort to help support retailers and brands, we will be publishing regular brand features for the next few weeks. Brands are selected from those that registered to exhibit at Natural Products Expo West 2020 and were curated as great examples of one of 50 trends New Hope Network is monitoring in the marketplace.

Today, we look at five companies that are innovating in the "Brain Health" trend within the Modern Conditions macro force. Consumers are seeking products to help them optimize cognitive function for peak performance, to remain smart and on point as we navigate life’s many hurdles and challenges.

1. Elements Truffles

What is it? Raw, small batch artisanal chocolates and cacao products sweetened with honey. They are dairy-free, non-GMO, gluten-free, Fair Trade, vegan products. Elements Truffles donates 25% of profits to the education of underprivileged children.

Innovation: This chocolate company combines Ayurveda and chocolate, such as its ashwagandha-infused dark Barcelona-style hot chocolate mix.

2. SafeSleeve

What is it? SafeSleeve designs, manufactures and sells cell phone, tablet and laptop accessories that block EMF radiation from devices.

Innovation: SafeSleeve’s antiradiation products incorporate lab-tested shielding technology that can block over 99% of RF radiation and 92% of ELF radiation emitted by mobile devices. The company aims to educate about and provide practical and stylish solutions to the emerging threat of electromagnetic radiation exposure.

3. Neurohacker Collective

What is it? The Neurohacker Collective sells nootropics for cognition and brain health.

Innovation: The Neurohacker Collective’s approach is to “support the body's ability to self-regulate its own biochemistry and restore homeostatic balance.” This approach is in contrast to products that the company says can override regulatory systems with chemicals and which are designed to move a biomarker in a particular direction.

4. Ion Biome

What is it? A soil-derived supplement that supports the tight junctions in the gut lining and blood-brain barrier, promoting balanced gut health and immune function, and providing support from environmental exposures. 

Innovation: Ion Biome claims to support the body’s production of beneficial enzymes through redox signaling (cellular communication). In doing so, it enhances gut-brain connectivity and the function of neurotransmitters like serotonin.

5. Brainiac Kids

What is it? A line of children’s yogurt products developed to support brain development.

Innovation: Brainiac Kids' fortified applesauce and yogurt support brain health with a blend of omega-3s, DHA and ALA, and choline.
